The Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of the German Language

The Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of the German Language was founded in 2000 after the reorganization of the Foreign Languages Department №2 of the Faculty of Linguistics.

The Head of department – assistant professor, candidate of philology, professor of the Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of German language Helena Lysenko – has built a team of highly skilled employees – professors, assistant professors and senior lecturers who faithfully implement their professional obligations. Scientific and pedagogical specialists take an active part in the educational and scientific life of Ukraine and Germany, they work under the international programs, participate in international scientific and scientific-methodological seminars and conferences, upgrade their professional and methodological competencies, take internships in Europe and leading universities of Ukraine.

At present, the concept of the department’s development is directly related to the reforming of the education system.

Now priority issues for department are application of the multimedia technologies in education, strengthening the scientific potential of the department by involving young professionals in scientific work, improving teaching methods and implementing the necessary changes in accordance with modern regulations and requirements of the Ministry of Education and Science.

At the Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of German Language students study three educational programs in the speciality 035 Philology: the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education, the second (master’s) level of higher education and the third (PhD) level of higher education with a specialization 035.043 “Germanic languages and literatures (translation included), German as a first foreign language”. Educational programmes’ goals and learning outcomes allow students to be fluent in both English and German, solve complex specialized translation assignments, carry out and provide intercultural professional interaction of representatives of scientific and technical community, conduct research in philology and translation, etc. In 2020, department’s two educational programmes (bachelor’s and master’s) were successfully accredited.

Graduates of the Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of German Language are highly qualified professionals who perform their work at a highly competitive level in various local and foreign organizations, such as Ukrainian offices of German companies, Goethe Institute in Ukraine, travel and advertising agencies, language schools, translation bureaus, and many other prestigious organisations. A substantial number of graduates continue their studying in Germany and Austria and also work for foreign firms and companies. In order to employ its graduates, the Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of German Language enters into cooperation agreements with respectable local organisations and involves stakeholders.

The Department of Theory, Practice and Translation of German Language has built bridges with international partners in order to involve them both in the educational process and in further employment. There exists a consistent pattern of involving German speakers and lecturers in the classroom studies within the framework of cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service “DAAD”. A lecturer with 5-year agreement, Michael Kleineberg, is currently working at the department. In order to optimise and modernise the educational process, for students and scientific and pedagogical staff of the department are regularly arranged seminars, master classes, workshops and refresher courses. Students and staff of the department are given the right to participate in the academic mobility programme “Erasmus+” on a regular basis.

Applicants of the department study according to the most up-to-date communicative approaches of Hueber, Klett, Langenscheidt and Schubert publishing houses.

Our students demonstrate high achievements through the active participation in international scientific-practical conferences, they win prizes in translation competitions and Olympiads and regularly gain grants and scholarships from international organisations, and they also are socially active and engaged participants in the student life of our university. http://ktppnm.kpi.ua/

Другий календарний контроль
Другий календарний контроль у весняному семестрі 2020/2021 н.р. Сьогодні розпочався другий календарний контроль весняного семестру для студентів бакалаврів 1-3 курсу та студентів магістрів 1 курсу. Він триватиме до 20.05 включно. Рекомендуємо уточнити у всіх викладачів вимоги до отримання позитивної оцінки за результатами календарного контролю.

ЗМІНЕНО терміни другого календарного контролю весняного семестру 2020/2021!
 У зв'язку з державними святами та перенесеними вихідними – змінено терміни календарного контролю. Відповідно, він буде проведений з 05 по 20 травня (включно) для студентів 1-3 курсу бакалаврату та 1 курсу магістратури.
