History of the faculty

The Faculty of Linguistics was founded at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” in 1995.

The basis of the Faculty of Linguistics’ activities is formed by combining teaching the students foreign languages with immersion in the fields of technology and economics. The faculty prepares highly qualified professional translators of scientific, technical and business literature who successfully work in various branches of the national economy and business of Ukraine. Thanks to the command of several foreign languages, in particular their technical and business aspects, our graduates are irreplaceable when communicating with foreigners both at various international conferences and negotiations, and while working in modern international structures and joint ventures. Cooperating with the students of other University departments, students of the Faculty of Linguistics are able to conduct multidisciplinary research and present their bachelor’s and master’s theses in English at various conferences.

Faculty of Linguistics’ best graduates also work as the lecturers of foreign languages at all faculties and institutes of Igor Sikorsky KPI.

It is a well-known fact that a true linguist must in the first place have a perfect command of their mother tongue, so the Department of the Ukrainian Language, Literature and Culture is constantly doing a great work for the in-depth study of the Ukrainian language.

Educational process at the Faculty of Linguistics is provided by the team of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical staff. Due to a well-known TEMPUS-TACIS program that used to be a powerful incentive tool at the faculty, almost 50 lecturers completed internships abroad so the faculty was enriched by a number of scientific and methodological guidelines offered by these lecturers as well as by a large number of the latest textbooks from foreign publishing houses.

Faculty of Linguistics can boast of up-to-date multimedia classrooms, audio and video libraries, which contribute to the effective professional training.

Another feature of the faculty is that it hosts foreign lecturers, native speakers of foreign languages by way of inviting them to participate in the educational processes, organizing various events, speaking clubs, etc. so that our students always have the opportunity for live language communication. Some of them can continue their studies abroad through various student exchange programs.

Financing of students’ education is carried out both with the state budget funding, and with the funds of legal entities and individuals.

The training of specialists is carried out in full-time and part-time forms of education on the basis of secondary, incomplete higher education and complete higher education in the following specialties:

bachelor of philology;

master’s degree in translation.

The history of the Faculty of Linguistics reflects a century long experience of teaching foreign languages to polytechnics that served as the basis for the creation of the Faculty, being at the cutting edge of the University education and having a great future.
